Who you are

Four members in suits on a bench in front of a hedge

OQG doesn't require any technical or financial background. We believe the best candidates can be created, and we evaluate applicants holistically. If you have prior experience, great! However, it won't hurt your chances if you don't.

Our Members

We don't expect prior experience with our tech stack, a finance background or 5 years of competitive programming. Our members come in willing to dedicate their time to bridging the gap and creating quality research.

Who should apply?

Students who are curious, rigorous, and willing to be pushed. We care more about how you think than what you already know.

Is this a finance club?

OQG focuses specifically on Quantitative Finance, which sits at the intersection of math, statistics, and code. Finance is the domain, not the prerequisite.

What do members actually do?

Research in small teams, client work for real firms, a structured education track, and industry exposure through site visits and speakers. By the end of the year, you'll have a whitepaper, a GitHub repo, and a presentation to show for it.

Do I need to be a CS, math, or finance major?

No. Most members lean technical, but we've accepted people from all backgrounds. What matters is that you can learn fast and do the work.

Do I need to know how to code?

Some Python helps. You don't need to be an expert. You do need to be willing to get there.

How selective is it?

Our last cycle had a 9% acceptance rate. Most people who get in come in prepared and clear about why they want it.

What does the application process look like?

A written application, then behavioral and technical interviews. The technical round tests how you reason, not whether you've memorized formulas.

When do applications open?

Recruitment follows the academic year term cycle. Applications for each term cycle open Week 1 of the term and close in Week 3.
